It's often said that a husband who cannot cook when his wife is away can always manage beans on toast. So what does that say of a hospital where the food is so bad the toast is indistinguishable from the bread? Actually, perhaps that's unfair - 'toast' seems to be yesterday's bread rather than today's so that it develops a drier texture, but it apparently never sees any heat.

I should have added that even as a visitor I felt nauseous when food was brought in to my friend's room.
